Welcome to my Oz blog and our year of obscure Oz. I will be showcasing a year of unknown and more obscure facts, media, and different all around takes about the Land of Oz outside of the 1939 MGM movie. Since we are in December, Christmas in Oz is a really big influence; however, in the Maguire book's, our protagonists celebrate a different holiday called Lurlinemas. More specifically, Lurlinemas is a winter holiday in Oz in the Wicked series, which is comparable to Baum's version of Christmas. From this version, we learn decorative colors for the holiday are green and gold. Additionally, Fiyero sends his family wooden toys and other gifts during this holiday. That means that gifts are a part of the holiday as well. Maybe check out more on Lurlinemas in the second book of the Wicked series on Elphaba's son, Liir or here on the Wikipedia site. In the meantime, have a Happy Lurlinemas and an Ozian New Year. As you will discover within this yearly series, we will be looking at different references among the Baum and Maguire versions of Oz as those are, in my opinion, one of the better and fascinating versions of Oz to me. So, what are you doing for this Lurlinemas? Post your favorite Lurlinemas pictures or your favorite stories below that you created or found and until then, we'll be seeing you somewhere into the Oz-verse.

AuthorMy name is Vinkus Ken and I have been a long time fan of many things in Oz and how their world truly does emulate much of ours. Did you know that they have a flag of their own? Or did you know that they have a law about only having 9 jurors in their courts? Also, Oz has a court system! I like to introduce facts that seem meaningless and bring meaning to them by comparing them to our world. So, come along on this journey and enjoy the ride. |
