Greetings all! We have finally made it to the last section of the book, "The Murder and Its Afterlife". This section is basically a retelling of how the witch and Dorothy interacted that led up to the witch being "murdered" in the end. Fascinatingly enough, people actually die in Maguire's version where in Baum's version, no one died in the land of Oz. Anyways, let's begin our quiz for this section and see how you fair. 1) What destroys the Munchkin Country at the beginning of the section?
2) How did Elphaba hear about Nessarose’s death?
3) What is the name of the girl who lands in Oz and kills Nessarose?
4) Who greeted Dorothy when she landed in Oz?
5) What was Nessarose's "rumored" title?
6) Who was intended to be the leader, or adept, of Munchkinland, as per Madame Morrible’s request?
7) What reason does The Wizard give as to why Fiyero's family was staying at Kiamo Ko?
8) Why does Elphaba follow Dorothy?
9) What did Elphaba strike Madame Morrible with first?
10) Which of Elphaba’s pets did she send to greet Dorothy first?
Well, that's my quiz, good luck! Answers will come next week when we get to discuss everything Dorothy in the Wicked books. Also, if you have a quiz that is relevant to this section or any of the previous sections, feel free to post it below so others can experience it for themselves; but, until next time, we'll be seeing you somewhere over the Vinkus!

Hey Wicked Fans! Today's post will showcase some amazing artwork inspired by the "Into the Vinkus" section of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. This is part of 25th anniversary celebration of the book. Up first is some artwork concerning Liir, Elphaba's son, who is first introduced in this section. Another great fan art from this section concerns Fiyero's family that was living at Kiamo Ko when Elphaba arrived. This artist used a Game of Thrones technique to create this family. Other characters that we meet do not really have speaking lines in the stories, except for Chistery, who learns to talk, were given some illustration treatment when Wicked illustrator Douglas Smith gave us quite a fascinating look into Elphaba's animal friends (Killyjoy, Chistery, Malky) in the under cover art (shown below). Two of which are introduced in this section of the book, Killyjoy and Chistery; and Malky was introduced briefly in the City of Emeralds section. Other animals that Elphaba is given during this section are some crows and bees by the different tribes that she meets on her journey to Kiamo Ko. Of course, what would this section be without fan art of Kiamo Ko itself. Below are two artists rendition of Kiamo Ko, along with someone who even made a terrific advertisement regarding Kiamo Ko as a place to stay, if you were ever to visit. Check it out! Well, that will do it for now and if you have a favorite fan art from this section, please feel free to post and comment it below as I do enjoy seeing all these very wonderful interpretations of the different characters and places within each section. These fan art posts have truly been my favorite and I sure hope you have enjoyed our fan art interpretation as much as I have. So, until next time, when we jump into the final activities of the final section of the book during our 25th anniversary of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, we'll be seeing you somewhere over the Vinkus. As always, to see more artwork by the artists featured above, click on the names below to see their online galleries.

Greetings Wicked Fans! Today's post is all about those lovely video memories from the Vinkus. Now, fascinatingly enough, this section was completely changed in the musical; however, I will show some comparisons between the book and the musical to help guide our videologue. First up, we will start with an initial piece that makes it into the play from the book within this section and that is when Elphaba changes Chistery into a flying monkey. IN THE BOOK Elphaba found Chistery, a snow monkey, on a snowy island outside of Kiamo Ko. She then ended up doing experiments on Chistery that involved sewing wings onto the monkey's back and eventually used the Grimmerie to merge the wings and the monkey. IN THE MUSICAL The Wizard tricks Elphaba into using a Levitation spell and it causes all the monkeys around, including Chistery, to sprout wings, fly, and be free. So, the video below is from the performance in Brazil (and is in Portuguese), however, it still shows this scene in its entirety; so, I hope you enjoy this multicultural performance of Chistery's Transformation from Wicked: The Musical. Of course, it is not exactly as it is in the book, but it works perfectly to tell the story! I am also loving Madame Morrible's costuming and the darker set pieces as well. Anyways, moving onto another video clip, the next one involves Elphaba being at Kiamo Ko. Now, in the book, there is a lot that happens at Kiamo Ko like Elphaba meeting Sarima, who is Fiyero's wife, Sarima’s sisters, and Fiyero's children. Additionally, Liir is introduced in this section, who I discussed two weeks ago, but nothing was ever created involving him except some fan art and random illustrations. Furthermore, there are a number of activities that occur at this castle like a terrifying incident happens when Manek, Sarima's son, gets an icicle through his head caused by Elphaba because Manek caused Liir to be nearly dead within a well. Oh goodness! So, for the video below from the musical, Elphaba is seeing how everyone keeps taking advantage of her and is sick of it, so this is what happens. She realizes that no good deed goes unpunished and needs to find a way to even the score, which is one of the moments that leads to Elphaba becoming the Wicked Witch of the West. Do enjoy! One last video from this section is the part of the book where Elphaba learns how to fly her broom. So, here's how it happens in each. IN THE BOOK She sees Nor, Fiyero's daughter, flying the broom and tells her to stop before she gets hurt. One night, she snuck out and started practicing with the broom and demanded the broom's respect. Thus, invoking her on her flying broom. IN THE MUSICAL Now, this happens a little differently in the musical as she is being chased by Emerald City guards. Then, her and Glinda run into a broom closet and the two have it out as Elphaba decides she is not going to let others define her, thus she "defies gravity" on a broom she found in the closet (and levitates herself). Well, that should do it for our videos from the Vinkus. I do hope you have enjoyed our video memories from the Vinkus section of the book. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below. Also, if your favorite didn’t make it to our list, please feel free to share it below; and, before we leave, here is one final video from the musical regarding the transition to the Kiamo Ko castle. What a great outline and transition to the castle scenes. Anyways, I do hope you enjoy these videos and until next time, we will be seeing you somewhere over the Vinkus.
Greetings Wicked Fans! This week’s activity is a crossword inspired by the Vinkus section and the different characters and objects that are discussed here. So, hopefully you enjoy and have a fun time with this word-based activity.
Also, come back next week when we see some videos inspired by this section as well and until next time, we’ll be seeing somewhere over the Vinkus.
